I didn't really have a subject in mind but had some thoughts I want to share. I am reflecting on the last 4 years of my life when it comes to my physical well being. 4 years ago, I was around 300 pounds and was going through the process of deciding to change my life. 3 years ago, I reached the goal. 2 years ago, I decided to write a book about my experience and 1 year ago, I reached the goal of having the book published. Over the last 3 years, I have been learning the ups and downs of maintaining. In fact, I should update the book to talk about how to maintain. In many ways, it is tougher than losing weight. The key to maintaining, for me, is running. I love to run in races. If you have lost weight or are in the process, you need to find something fun to do that involves physical activity. It will help you maintain your weight loss.
Social media has been huge in my life. I have made so many friends from outside of my church box. I love my running friends. There is a wonderful community of runners from all walks of life. I had no clue that existed. I follow most of my running friends on Twitter while most of my church friends are on Facebook. There is some overlapping. The thing that has been huge for me concerning social media has been the accountability. I post about my life so much that I can't "backslide." Social media has been a great help to my physical well being.
This weekend, Cathy and I travel to Boston to visit with her brother and some of his immediate family. We will spend 2 nights there and I will run in the "Run to Remember" Half Marathon on Sunday morning. I can't wait! This year will be special in light of the bombings there during the Boston Marathon. This race, coming over Memorial Day weekend, is to honor those who have passed serving the city of Boston over the years. It will also be my 15th state in which I have run a race. I believe I am ready for the half marathon as I have run 10 miles 2 times in the last week.
There are many prayer requests now. It seems like bad news comes in waves. Besides all of the nationally known news such as the tornado in Moore, Oklahoma, there are personal tragedies as well. I ask you to join me in praying for my friend, Paul Hollifield and his family, concerning the loss of his 10 year old daughter. Jesus promised us that in this life, we would have trouble. Jesus never lied to us. We have trouble. But, the good news is, Jesus has overcome the world and this life is but a vapor. So, hug your kids. Love your neighbor, do good to those who persecute you and love Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.
