Many will view the title of this blog as being blasphemous. Hang with me a bit. Throughout the Bible, God gives us choices. In Deuteronomy, God sets before us life and death and asks us to choose life. Pro-choice, right? He sets before us blessings and curses and asks us to choose blessings. Pro-choice, right? He has given us choices and expects us to make the right ones. Of these choices He gives us, it is a pretty easy choice, isn't it? Who chooses death over life and curses over blessings? Actually, we choose death all the time.
For at least 30 years of my life, I chose death. I was headed down that road and it was a choice. God did not interfere with my free will and allowed me to make wrong choices. The great thing about God is that He gives us another choice. He gave me the option of life. 3 years ago, I chose life over death. There is no guarantee that I will live past writing this blog, but I have made a choice that I will live the rest of my life in health and fitness as long as I am physically able.
Not only is God "pro-choice" He is a God who persuades us to make the right choices. He didn't just set before us life and death without a recommendation but persuades us to choose life. It should be an obvious choice but when you put it into the context of how we treat our bodies, it takes on new meaning. Everybody wants life but only a few are willing to pay the price for it. In my book "All My Strength," I mention the old story of the gentleman who told a pro golfer that he wished he could hit a golf ball like him. The pro responded by telling him that he would not be willing to pay the price to hit a golf ball like him. It is true. We want results without paying the price. The price is not a monetary one but a price of true sacrifice and denial of self. God gives us the choice. What will we choose?
Choose this day who you will serve. We know this one as well. God asks us to choose. He is "pro choice." However, He warns us about making the wrong choices. What do you choose this day? Like the Lord, I persuade you to choose life! Abundant life. You will never regret the choice to take care of your body. Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. That's a pretty big deal and you can choose to do that or you can choose to be unhealthy. Yes, God is "pro-choice." Choose life!
