There's nothing like being on the edge of Spring in Atlanta. It's my favorite time of the year. Being a sports nut helps. March Madness is just around the corner. To be honest, I don't watch much NCAA basketball during the regular season. I do pay close attention to the Lee University Flames.
I have been watching the Lee College Vikings since 1972. This year's team is the best team in the school's history. Lee is ranked #2 in the NAIA and has a record of 29-1 so far. The best win of the season came at the hands of East Carolina. Lee defeated ECU, an NCAA Division 1 school by 2 points on the road. ECU defeated NC State and NC State defeated Duke. Lee is playing in the SSAC tournament this week and the NAIA tournament next week. A national championship is well within reach for the Lee University Flames!! Oh, by the way, the Lady Flames are also in the hunt being #2 in the nation. The baseball team is #3. Congratulations goes out to my friend and Lee athletic director, Larry Carpenter.
Another one of my favorite things is Spring Training baseball. Everybody that knows me knows that I am a baseball fanatic. I even play Fantasy Baseball. Of course, my team is the Atlanta Braves. I have followed them since they moved to Atlanta in 1966. I witnessed them clinch the first division championship in 1969. Me and my DHD buddies were at the game in which Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth's HR record when he hit #715. I have seen multiple World Series games here in Atlanta. I couldn't ask for anything else.
Another favorite thing is the Master's in Augusta. A few years back, my friend Greg Phillips invited me to go with him to one of the practice rounds. That is the best because you can take pictures. I got some closeups of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, who won that year. I could not believe how the grass was so perfect. It is an unbelievable course.
There's nothing like Spring time in Atlanta. The dogwoods are beautiful. The anticipation of baseball. I love the Spring. It is my favorite time of the year.
